If you’re looking for a relaxing countryside break in North Yorkshire with beautiful scenery, peaceful surroundings and luxury touches, then Roseberry Retreat might just be the perfect place to stay! Located just underneath the iconic Roseberry Topping, Roseberry Retreat provides a comfortable and scenic base for exploring the surrounding countryside. Whether you’re planning a walking weekend or simply a quiet escape from everyday life, this luxury retreat offers a wonderful mix of calm and tranquillity.
As a relatively new business, Roseberry Retreat is still being discovered by many visitors to the area. After staying there ourselves, we felt it deserved a proper introduction! Et voila! In this review we’ll share everything you need to know about the accommodation, the location, the facilities and what makes it such a great place to stay if you’re visiting this beautiful part of North Yorkshire.

Where is Roseberry Retreat?
One of the biggest highlights of Roseberry Retreat is its fantastic location. Situated in the North Yorkshire countryside between Guisborough and Great Ayton, the retreat is perfectly placed for exploring some of the most scenic landscapes in the region.
The site sits within easy reach of the famous Roseberry Topping, a distinctive hill that’s often referred to as the “Yorkshire Matterhorn”. This popular walking destination attracts visitors from all over the North East thanks to its panoramic views and rewarding hike to the summit. It's certainly a 'must do' if you're in the area.
Roseberry Retreat also sits on the edge of the stunning North York Moors National Park, making it an ideal base for outdoor adventures. The world quite literally is your oyster once you step foot into North Yorkshire. From scenic walks and cycling routes to wildlife spotting and countryside pubs, there’s so much to explore nearby. You absolutely can't be bored here!

What is Roseberry Retreat?
Roseberry Retreat is a small countryside accommodation development designed to provide visitors with a relaxing place to stay in one of North Yorkshire’s most beautiful areas. The focus here is very much on comfort, sustainability, tranquillity and enjoying the natural surroundings.... Which, spoiler alert, they absolutely nail!
Rather than a large holiday park, the retreat feels peaceful and personal. The owners Joanna and Simon echo this feeling too! We were made to feel so welcome right from the get go.
With six huts available, the accommodation has been thoughtfully designed to blend into the landscape while still providing modern comforts for guests. It really is the best of both worlds. And even better, each of the six huts are designed completely differently, which is super fun! At Roseberry Retreat you can stay in:
- The Whisky Parlour
- The Birdwatcher's Hide
- The Snug
- The Old Library
- The Captain's Cabin
- The Potting Shed
This type of accommodation is perfect for visitors who want something a little different from traditional hotels. Staying here allows you to enjoy the quiet beauty of the countryside while still having everything you need for a luxurious and comfortable stay.

Our Shepherds Hut at Roseberry Retreat
During our visit to Roseberry Retreat we stayed in The Whisky Parlour, and were immediately impressed by how comfortable and well presented everything was. First impressions were a big tick!
The Whisky Parlour Interior
The interior felt modern, clean, thoughtfully designed, and very much lived up to it's name. From the moment we walked in, it was clear to see that a lot of thought had been taken to make the space feel as welcoming as possible. The decor was stylish, without being over the top, which creates a relaxing environment that feels perfect for a countryside escape.
The living area was comfortable with two grand leather armchairs and a little table complete with a decanter of whisky. Multiple windows allowed plenty of natural light to fill the space, while also offering lovely views of the surrounding countryside. Getting that view of Roseberry Topping was top notch!
The sleeping area was ridiculously comfortable, with a cosy king size bed that made it easy to relax and get a good night’s sleep after a day og hiking. For anyone planning to climb Roseberry Topping or explore the nearby moors, a comfortable place to recharge is essential, and this accommodation certainly delivers. I don't think I'll get as good of a nights sleep in a long time! Their beds were so comfortable.
The kitchen facilities were small, but well equipped and provided everything needed to prepare meals during our stay. We popped to the butchers nearby in Stokesley before checking in and cooked ourselves up some delicious steaks. It was absolutely the meal we needed after a long walk during the day.
Each hut also comes with it's own private bathroom. I know this can be a concern for a lot of people when camping and glamping, but the facilities here at Roseberry Retreat are perfect. You get a decent size shower, toilet and basin as standard.

Exterior
Outside, all of the shepherds huts come with their very own private hot tub. They're wood fired which is super cool. Heating time takes around about two hours (top tip, when you think you' ve added enough wood, add two more blocks) but once it's ready it's the most amazing experience. A glass of vino, in the warm water, looking out at Roseberry Topping. What's not to love!
You're also provided with an outdoor fire pit. We go camping quite a lot and love a fire pit, so this was a bit plus for us. It's so atmospheric on an evening when you're starting to lose day light.

What We Loved About Our Stay
There were plenty of things that stood out during our visit to Roseberry Retreat, and it’s easy to see why it’s quickly becoming a popular place to stay. Some of our favourite things included:
The location
Being so close to Roseberry Topping makes this an amazing base for walkers and nature lovers. We headed out walking again the following morning up to Roseberry Topping, opting for a slow stroll this time with a Roseberry Coffee along the way.
The peaceful atmosphere
The retreat feels so calm and relaxing, which is exactly what you want from a countryside getaway. After running around with my kids all week, this is exactly the type of retreat I was after.
The quality of the accommodation
Everything felt clean, modern and thoughtfully designed. I don't think there's anything Joanna and Simon haven't thought of! They even left us a welcome pack of fresh bread and biscuits which was super lovely.
A perfect escape from busy life
It’s the kind of place where you can slow down, enjoy nature and recharge. And lord knows I needed it! You get so run down unknowingly with everyday life, a stay at Roseberry Retreat is absolutely needed!

Roseberry Retreat sounds like a wonderful place to go and visit for a nice relaxed quiet break away. I do love to walk and it sounds like it would ideal for a walking holiday. I love being out in nature so this sort of break would be ideal for me. I am a stickler for things being clean so this is ideal. I do like the set up and the modern look of the accommodation. Pour me a glass of wine and get that hot tub ready, I'm on my way!
This certainly looks like a cozy retreat! It sounds like such a relaxing spot to get away. It is nice to find a place like this to go away in the countryside.
Having different themes for every hut makes the whole glamping experience feel way more personal. It is great to find a spot that prioritizes a quiet atmosphere over those crowded holiday parks that usually feel too busy.
This looks so beautiful and serene!! Definitely adding this to my dream destination list for a nice decompressing trip when I need a break from life. The Snug and The Old Library immediately stood out for me, so glad you put this vacation stay on my radar!
